Pictures From The Drive South Through The Adirondacks

I travel a short but scenic section of State Route 30 in the Adirondacks. That's where Mountain Pond trout fishing area is located as well as Barnum Pond, whose waters lap almost to the highway. This is a portion of Barnum Pond with mountains in the background:

And I really meant it when I said that Barnum Pond's waters almost reach the highway:



The skies were cloudy on this particular southward trek and the scenery was transformed:

Near the town of Brighton, a small lane leaves the highway and wanders off through the hay fields toward the high peaks. I often take these roads just to see where they lead but this one appeared to be a private farm road:

The high peaks surrounding the town of Lake Placid are in the background:

These warm and welcoming roads will soon light up with Autumn color. Shortly thereafter, winter will blanket these scenes with snow:
