Part 1 - Sanfordville, New York

I was on the way home from my driving tour of Madrid with the five younger dogs in the car and was heading east on Route 11 when I saw this sign telling me I'd just entered Sanfordville, New York. Well, that was one of the villages I'd wanted to tour, so I got out my camera and began snapping pictures:

There were lovely old homes all fixed up with metal roofs and nice front porches:

And big trees everywhere:

There was the Village Market and gas station at an intersection:

This amazing structure looked like a former silo, but the attached house didn't look like a former barn. I had to just admire it as a lovely home and wonder about its origins:

A simpler, older home up on a hill with chairs on the front porch:

Set back into the woods just a bit:

And a colorful house with a piece of artwork on the front wall. I see that quite often in the area. Most ornaments are big stars, but others are like this one, more ornate artwork:

A garage and a gazebo - not to mention lots of trees:

A nice pastel green home. Alas, its hanging baskets will need new plants in the springtime:

A unique house style for the area. The "Justice For Garrett" sign refers to the unsolved murder of a 12 year old boy just down the road in Potsdam. The signs are everywhere:

I turned down a side road which followed along the west branch of the St. Regis River. There I passed by this very nice cottage on the riverbank. But there was more to see in Sanfordville, and I'll post more tomorrow:
