Chapter 1 - Converse Road, Fort Jackson NY

I'd just completed a driving tour of the tiny settlements of Kellogg, Buckton and Beechertown. It was time to head home. I had the five young dogs with me, but old Wally and Winky were at home sleeping. So I turned onto Converse Road, which according to the map, would take me in the right direction. But I hadn't gone more than a few yards when I decided that I should photograph the sights of Converse Road, beginning with this very nice home:

Then I passed by this herd of red cattle and wondered for a second if they might be Red Polls. They were both red and polled, but my guess was that they were Red Angus:

I was impressed with this friendly, comfortable looking home and outbuildings:

And this modern modular:

An old farm house, all fixed up with a solitary silo still standing tall out back:

And this rather surprisingly citified brick home beneath the trees:

A brown and green woodsy home:

A traditional, red barn not unlike my own:

An abandoned church. This was where I realized that I was in Fort Jackson, as I'd been here before:

This giant, old yellow home stands near the church and near the St. Regis River. It was here that I turned around to drive Converse Road the other direction so I could photograph the homes on the opposite side of the road without shooting directly into the sun:

I passed by this abandoned green home - or barn - or whatever it used to be:

And this traditionally simple home right up near the road. But I still had lots more to see on Converse Road, so I'll post those pictures tomorrow:
