Madrid was proving to be every bit as charming as I'd been promised. There were fine, old homes with ornate trim and front porches:
American flags out front:
This may have been the most beautiful front porch I'd ever seen:
A green home and barn:
And an old business, no longer in operation - Alford's Sash And Door:
In the town center business district, the public square had been turned into two skating rinks and local people (not just the kids) were having fun:
This well kept home had both a wrap-around porch and an American flag:
A brick church:
And another white home with a front porch. It was cold and wintry that day, but I'd like to drive through some time in the summer and see how many folks are using those wonderful porches:

And the Hometown Cafe looked especially appealing. But since I had five dogs with me in the car, I didn't even consider stopping. But there's more to this driving tour of Madrid, New York. I'll post Part 3 tomorrow:
