A Hometown To Love: Madrid, New York - Part 1

The dogs and I had just arrived at the farm for the weekend and gotten settled in comfortably. Everything looked in order and it was still early on a Sunday afternoon, so I decided to take a driving tour of the town of Madrid (pronounced MAD-rid, with the accent on the first syllable:

I hadn't seen Madrid before, but had been told that it was charming and photogenic, like a town straight out of the 50s. So I entered the town with high expectations. This lovely home got us off to a good start:

There was an old barn in town which appeared to have been a business at one time:

And this white house with a white chimney and white picket fence:

There was an old, red brick hotel. I couldn't tell if it was still in use or not:

An exquisite wrap-around porch with blue trim:

And a board and batten home with carefully detailed paint and trim work:

There were several stately stone homes:

And a blue and white home up on a hill:

This neat home with its traditional front porch and scenic views seemed typical of the town to me:

Another home with traditional front porch and scenic views:

There was a big, white church with a bell tower. I wondered if they rang the bell on Sunday mornings. Madrid was indeed a very nice town. I'll post more photos of it tomorrow:
