I was on my Maple Weekend tour when I passed by this old fashioned sugar house, clearly boiling sap and with enough firewood to boil lots more. I saw a tractor leaving, pulling a wagon with a big, stainless steel, coffin sized tank on it and assumed the driver had just delivered more sap. This was a private operation which was not holding an open house, though, so I didn't stop. I did, however, decide to take a driving tour of the road it was on:
And an interesting road it was, with such sights as this magnificent old barn:
There were modern homes:
And modernized older farm houses:
One abandoned home and barn:
A log cabin:
And small, cozy looking homes:
This logging operation may have been for firewood but I couldn't be sure:
But this beautiful and friendly horse caused me to stop in the road for a better look. It's not as if there was any traffic:
And then his little buddy, who saw him getting attention, came out of the woods to join us:
At some point, I wasn't sure where, McConnell Road took off to the right and I found myself on McAustin Road. But that was fine with me, as there were beautiful farms all along the road:
And Snow Buntings, a bird I never tire of seeing. I figure they'll soon be heading north to their breeding grounds in the high arctic. Imagine a bird who thinks upstate New York is a place in which to escape winter! But this was the end of my driving tour, so I swung around and returned to the main highway:
