The tiny hamlet of Santa Clara had turned out to have more to see than I'd expected. This home had a ladder up, probably for shoveling snow off the roof:
I got a view of the hamlet from behind a tall snowbank:
This old garage had not been plowed out, so I concluded it was no longer used:
Another ladder, again most likely for shoveling snow off of the flat roof:
I pulled back onto Route 458 and snapped pictures of the nearby houses, also part of the hamlet of Santa Clara:
This home sat up on a hill and had a nice porch for sitting and watching the rural landscape:
A green home with a screened porch:
And Moss's Santa Clara Lodge, Rooms and Drinks. This place had been for sale as long as I've been driving through here but apparently had been sold. The new owners seemed to have taken up residence, but I couldn't tell if they intended to use it as a family home or reopen it as an inn. At one time, there was a thriving tourist industry in these parts:
And another look at the oratory:
A small red house and garage was the last Santa Clara home I photographed:
As I pulled away from any settlement and back into the Adirondack forest, I could see mountains on the horizon. But the dogs and I were on our way to try hiking the Hays Brook Horse Trail in spite of the snow. I'll post about that tomorrow:
