Chapter 2 - Santa Clara, New York

I'd pulled off the highway to take a closer look at the hamlet of Santa Clara. It was a collection of older homes, clustered together within the Adirondack forest. Many of the houses appeared to have been built around trailers:

There was a very picturesque Catholic oratory, which I've read is essentially a chapel - set aside for prayer, but not a parish church:

There were trailers:

And small homes with barbecues out front, a reminder that summer would be coming again:

Lots of enclosed front porches, protection against Adirondack winters and biting flies in the spring and early summer:

The town garage was proudly flying an American flag:

And a garage is a wonderful thing to have when the winter winds are howling:

Lots of pines and firs:

And sleepy family homes keeping folks warm on that wintry day:

At one point I was up on a small rise and able to see the cluster of homes from a slight distance:

A rural mailbox and lots of snow:

And a woodsy, green home with a mountain in the background. But despite its small size, the hamlet of Santa Clara had more to see. I'll post Part 3 tomorrow:
