Chapter 1, Autumn Beauty On Port Kent Road

I was up at the farm with the dogs for a weekend and woke up quite early on Tuesday morning. I ate breakfast, cleaned up the farm apartment and decided to leave before daybreak. I had to use a flashlight to load up the car. We drove away in the darkness and I opted to take the small, rural Port Kent Road instead of the more commonly traveled highways. As the run rose, I was amazed to see the rosy hues of dawn adding a glow to the already brilliantly colored autumn leaves:

It was indeed spectacular and in the wee hours I could still see the moon overhead:

Again the moon, presiding silently over red and gold trees coming to life in the growing daylight:

I stopped along the St. Regis River to enjoy the scenery:

This was truly spectacular beauty, and sharing it with my happy, friendly dogs added to the joy:

I pointed my camera back toward the moon's glow as I stood by the St. Regis River:

This road has little traffic at any time, but at daybreak there was no one but me:

A bit farther down the road I pulled off onto state land to give the dogs a rest stop. They were thrilled to get out, pee and stretch their legs:

We were walking along a creek, but I decided not to push my way through the wet brush for a closer look. Besides wanting to stay dry, I confess that my recent fall has made me more careful:

Happy dogs and lovely scenery:

All the dogs are in this photo except old Winky. He almost always lags behind:

We continued on our way, but I did stop for a photo of this confetti colored mountain with its puffs of clouds as it peeked out over the closer greenery. But our autumn foliage tour of Port Kent Road was just beginning. I'll post more tomorrow:

  1. What gorgeous color you have up there near Port Kent! Down here in Saratoga County our autumn color was very muted. Thanks for the lovely photos.
