I drove up Route 3 to the Port Kent Road where two weeks prior there had been such brilliant autumn colors. What I found on this trip was a calmer, more sedate sort of beauty. The screaming colors were gone and had been replaced by whispering colors:
I knew the dogs were tired of the car and wanted out, but I had to wait for somewhere I could safely pull off the road:
There were many ponds along the road, surrounded by green and yellow foliage. I found it all a tranquil and welcoming scene:
And then I pulled off the road and let the dogs out. Little Madeline has made herself at home with my rowdy crew:
And adventurous little Clover ran right into the weeds to look for whatever dogs look for:
But we stayed close to the road. There was no traffic - and I mean NO traffic, not a single vehicle anywhere on this seasonal section of road:
Wally had been feeling extra perky for several weeks and truly enjoyed a bit of a romp in the autumn leaves. Well, as much of a romp as an old, blind dog can have:
And then I loaded the dogs back up into the car and prepared to finish our journey. Next stop, the farm:
