Our winter lingered this year, far longer than the six weeks predicted by Punxsutawney Phil, but Remy and Blue seemed just fine with it. They didn't appear to mind at all:
Sometimes they shied away from the big cows who were devouring the hay:
And other times, they moved right in and joined them:
Remy struck a pose by the old fence which I hope to finish taking down this summer. I've been removing it slowly, a little each year:
Both Blue and Remy seem to enjoy digging through the wasted hay which the cows have scattered and use as bedding:
And they always welcome me when I walk out into the field. They know I'm a source of hugs and head rubs:
No, this was not a sweet kiss. It was Blue biting Remy for trying to eat some of "his" hay. You can see that Remy was not intimidated:
And then Remy laughed. Really, this was a yawn but it looked like a laugh to me:
As for Blue, he needed to find a better place to stand. This explains why I sometimes find the horses and calf with cow manure stuck to their fur:
All was calm and peaceful, and the snow was tolerated:
Little Rocket likes to hang out with the horses. They're more his size and more fun than those gigantic, fat cows:
I often walk out to the pasture in the evening for one last check to be sure all the animals are OK. It's a comforting, encouraging process which helps me to sleep peacefully:
Bill, I just love your blog. Thanks for sharing the great pics of your life and animals at your farm. I cannot get enough of Blue, Remy, Rocket and Fergus...one gets a sense of their personalities from their pictures. Hopefully, spring will be here soon!
ReplyDeleteThanks. Blue and Remy and sure characters - especially Remy. Calving season (from Teddy, the bull) should begin any day now.
