Around The Farm In April

High winds in April caused a lot of Eastern Cedar sprigs to fall onto the weathered wood of my porch, causing small bits of extraordinary beauty:

The Easter Egger bantam hens, being the youngest, were first to begin laying eggs this spring:

The Barred Rock bantams, being rather old as egg layers go, were late to begin laying:

All the little hens get along well together. It's a shame they can't go outdoors anymore, but the foxes here would massacre them in short order if I continued letting them outdoors:

They are laying pink and green eggs, which I am hard boiling and feeding to the dogs (well, I do eat a few of them):

The fantail pigeons have been nesting but not tending to their eggs. I believe they'll buckle down to the job of parenting when the weather warms up - not that I need any more pigeons:

They are tame and attractive, but they still poop like pigeons:

Winter stayed on so very long this year that even the pigeons have not been able to fly outdoors yet:

When the snow melted, the pasture turned into a shallow lake:

I'm not sure what this was all about, but Remy, Gracie and Amy were all standing side by side near the barn one morning:

When my sister came to visit, she quickly went out to visit her friend, Remy. He'd spotted and recognized her as soon as she pulled in the driveway:

Blue thought Rocket had a stinky butt:

  1. Nice pictures, especially the one of your sister and Remy. Your sister and I may live in the same state. If I ever happen to bump into her some where, I will sure say hello! Thank you for sharing.
