It was another cold but sunny day and I had to drive to Potsdam, so I once again decided to take a driving tour on the way. I chose Lake Ozonia Road in Hopkinton, a very rural road which runs through the Adirondack Park to Lake Ozonia, which is surrounded by cottages, and from there to Route 458. This very large and modern farm was my first stop on Lake Ozonia Road:
I believe this is a heifer farm and it big, impressive and modern:
Behind the giant grain bins, I saw a loaded log truck heading out of the forest toward the road and figured that logging was part of their farming operation:
But very quickly the road took me into the forest. This green shed was filled with firewood:
And this home advertised homegrown maple syrup. They had a farm stand, where one can buy maple syrup in warmer weather:
A lovely old farm home with many pillars:
A tree house on stilts, set back in the forest:
And a blue and white mobile home with pine log pillars:
The Adirondack forest was beautiful, glistening with snow:
I passed the Holy Cross Cemetery:
And, to my surprise, another tree house on stilts, back in the forest. I would likely have seen neither of these if it had been summertime and the trees all had leaves:
I passed by a frozen marsh. I'd known that Lake Ozonia Road was beautiful in the summer, but was surprised that it was so lovely in winter. But it was also rather long and I had a lot of road yet to travel. I'll post Chapter 2 tomorrow:
