It's time for an update of things going on around the farm. I must begin with a reminder of the kind of winter it's been. This gravel road, which separates my two fields, had snow piled five feet high on each side, higher than the roof of my car. Yes, it has been a winter to remember (or to forget):
But the little bantams stayed indoors, happy and comfy:
They began laying again in mid-February and are now laying up a storm. The dogs are very happy about that since they get to eat the (cooked) eggs:
These little birds are as tame as chickens can get. I fear letting them out again in good weather because there are so many dangers. But they love to be outdoors, exploring and scratching:
Even the little rooster is pretty darn friendly - or perhaps I should say he's both pretty and friendly:
Back in the farm house, the dogs and cats sleep their lives away. And not one of them has sleeping down to a science quite like little old PeeWee:
Clover rested atop Seamus while Fergus and Daphne cuddled up close. This has been a favorite spot because it's right next to my computer chair. I have to be careful about rolling backwards when I try to stand up:
Bramble, Madeline and Snoozey still favor the kitchen floor pillows:
And PeeWee gets out of bed to agitate and pace when he thinks (often incorrectly) that it's time for a meal:
Clover and Fergus got together on a doubly thick dog bed:
Out in the cow barn, the five Red Poll girls spend their time eating and pooping, eating and pooping. I know that two of them are not pregnant but I'm not sure about the other three:
They take occasional breaks to play or for naps. In this instance, it was an after-dinner nap:
