All Alone In Brasher State Forest

The lovely, peaceful scene in yesterday's post inspired me to go find some pine or spruce trees to photograph while those big, lovely snowflakes were still falling. I stopped and bought two bags of cattle feed and filled a five gallon can with diesel fuel. Then I hurried over to the headquarters for the Brasher State Forest:

It was a Saturday, and the place was deserted. Yet the grounds were sufficiently plowed that I could drive around and have a look:

Everything was quiet and no one was around, so I parked next to this garage and began walking a service road into the forest:

And it was indeed beautiful:

The snow had a way of muffling the sound and I walked in silence. This was my first foray into the forest without my noisy, boisterous dogs and it seemed quite lovely:

The snowy forest was spectacularly beautiful:

I walked in silence and awe, aware that I was in a fine cathedral:

Mostly pines, with a few beech, and it was lovely:

I didn't venture off the plowed service road. I just walked and beheld:

I didn't go very far. You can see a headquarters building behind the trees to the left of this photo:

I turned around and headed back to my car:

The forest seemed new at every turn. But soon I was back at my car and headed back in to town. I had one more destination before I was to return home, but I'll post about that tomorrow:
