Lovely West Stockholm, New York - Part 1

The road took me away from the highway and toward the hamlet of West Stockholm, following the St. Regis River much of the way. As I entered the little settlement, I stopped first at this ornate home. I was fascinated:

I pulled down a little farther for another view of the above house with all its fancy trim. It too was an old country home with a carriage house/barn out back:

As I approached the main intersection, I passed this old brick farm house with a white, wooden New England style addition on the back and a barn of considerable size behind it:

I'd seen so many fancy homes that I was surprised to see this little cottage with moss all over its roof:

The style of this home seemed to me to indicate that it may have once been a general store. At any rate, it had wonderful, huge Christmas wreathes in the windows:

Right in the center of the hamlet was this home with a giant wrap-around porch:

And a white home with the same big front windows as a previous house which I'd thought may once have been a general store. Maybe this used to be the Post Office?:

Wooden siding, metal roof, attached double garage, one story - efficient and comfortable for a place with long, severe winters:

And this home was notable for its many Christmas decorations:

An old home (or two?) which had been abandoned and sat back off the road looking lonely and forlorn:

A happier home with plywood reindeer out front:

I suspected that this white house looked just about the same as it did many decades ago. I suppose it could have been 100 years old. But there was still more to see in West Stockholm and I'll post more photos tomorrow:
