It had been an unusually busy weekend, but I'd gotten a lot accomplished. I was tired, and it felt good to be in the car driving home. But I only got as far as Hays Brook Horse Trail when I decided to pull off the road and let the dogs out. After all, it would all be covered with deep snow pretty soon. In fact, it was snowing as we pulled in:
The dogs proceeded with abundant joy into the forest. This is one of the most scenic of all forests and some day I want to investigate farther:
Of course old Winky and Wally were slow, and I spent a lot of my time and attention urging them forward:
I soon spotted an indistinct trail leading off into the snow dusted forest:
So I gave the dogs a call and they all followed me on an expedition of exploration. The Papillons, AKA "The Silly Sisters," led the way:
Wally, of course, was slow. I thought this fallen log would stop him, but he jumped up onto it and began waking along its length:
By then we were all in the forest and Seamus took over the lead:
Wally continued poking along, sniffing as he went. Winky was way behind, but I could still see him:
The Papillons investigated the trail with keen interest. Perhaps it smelled like deer:
Wally found another snowy log to walk, apparently enjoying it a lot:
We got back onto the main trail and continued on our way. Fergus, as he so often does, became so animated that his ears were flopping as he ran:
Bringing up the rear were Wally and Winky. You can see by my little red car that we hadn't gotten very far. But we would go farther before we finished. I'll post more tomorrow:
