We were walking along the snow dusted Hays Brook Horse Trail and the dogs were having barrels of fun. They'd run ahead and then I'd call them so they could come running back:
We let Wally catch up with us and he actually was briefly ahead of me on the trail, following his big buddy, Seamus:
But this was just a rest stop and we had many miles to go before we reached home. So I turned all the dogs around and headed back toward the car:
Little Clover turned around to see what was the big hold up:
And then the other dogs came along too:
Almost back to the car:
Daphne looked at me curiously while Madeline shook off the snow:
Back at the car and ready to get in - except that we were still waiting for Wally and Winky:
I walked over to the sign and hitching post:
And took a photo of Madeline by a baby Beech tree:
Wally arrived and I got everyone back into the car. But Winky was so slow that I contemplated driving on the trail to pick him up. In the end, though, I just waited. Maybe not patiently, but I waited:
Once I'd gotten all the dogs back into the car, I took one last photo to remember the beauty of that snowy day and then headed out to the highway again. We traveled all the way home from there with only one other brief rest stop. But we'd be back in two weeks to do it all again:
