I was driving through beautiful lakeside Mountain View, New York and snapping photos as I went. It was indeed lovely on a summer's day:
I was anxious to get back to the center of town so that I could stop at Belly's, a place whose ads had greeted me all along the county roads I'd taken to get there. One sign promised 24 hour gas available. I was ravenously hungry by this time and was anxious to buy something for lunch. Alas, Belly's was closed and no sign suggested why or when they'd be open again:
So I began driving back home via the only county roads available, still snapping pictures of homes which I thought should be included. I supposed they were close enough to the cluster of homes on the lake that they told people they lived in Mountain View:
The scenery became woodsier as we left the lake behind:
And more of the residences seemed to be summer cottages instead of year 'round homes:
This old cabin had not been occupied in a very long time and the Adirondack forest was reclaiming the land:
A very small cottage with a very large grill. I'm sure they have some pleasant afternoon cook-outs:
A giant Blue Spruce, certainly not native to the Adirondacks but it looked right at home shading a friendly cabin:
Now this would be more my style. Rustic simplicity, set back in the forest:
I could see that this family had children and I'll bet they were building happy memories which will last them a lifetime:
This looked comfortable enough to be a year 'round residence. Perhaps it was:
And the last house I photographed on my way out of Mountain View seemed to me to the quintessential Adirondack place - small, rustic and set back beneath a towering Spruce tree. But I was hungry and knew that Wally and Winky were waiting for us back at the farm. So I put away my camera and concentrated on getting home as quickly as possible:
