Mountain View, New York - Part 2

I was driving through beautiful lakeside Mountain View, New York and snapping photos as I went. It was indeed lovely on a summer's day:

I was anxious to get back to the center of town so that I could stop at Belly's, a place whose ads had greeted me all along the county roads I'd taken to get there. One sign promised 24 hour gas available. I was ravenously hungry by this time and was anxious to buy something for lunch. Alas, Belly's was closed and no sign suggested why or when they'd be open again:

So I began driving back home via the only county roads available, still snapping pictures of homes which I thought should be included. I supposed they were close enough to the cluster of homes on the lake that they told people they lived in Mountain View:

The scenery became woodsier as we left the lake behind:

And more of the residences seemed to be summer cottages instead of year 'round homes:

This old cabin had not been occupied in a very long time and the Adirondack forest was reclaiming the land:

A very small cottage with a very large grill. I'm sure they have some pleasant afternoon cook-outs:

A giant Blue Spruce, certainly not native to the Adirondacks but it looked right at home shading a friendly cabin:

Now this would be more my style. Rustic simplicity, set back in the forest:

I could see that this family had children and I'll bet they were building happy memories which will last them a lifetime:

This looked comfortable enough to be a year 'round residence. Perhaps it was:

And the last house I photographed on my way out of Mountain View seemed to me to the quintessential Adirondack place - small, rustic and set back beneath a towering Spruce tree. But I was hungry and knew that Wally and Winky were waiting for us back at the farm. So I put away my camera and concentrated on getting home as quickly as possible:

Mountain View, New York - Part 1

It had been an active Monday morning. I'd hiked in to Debar Pond, taken a driving tour of Owls Head, New York and hiked to High Falls on the Big Salmon River. I considered another possible short hike but decided it was too late. Instead, I drove through the tiny community of Mountain View on my way home:

Mountain View actually seems to have fewer mountain views than Owls Head, except perhaps along the shores of its two lakes. What it does offer is spectacular Adirondack forests and lots of rural scenery:

Most of the houses sit along the lake shore and simultaneously give the impression of summer homes and year 'round residences. I suppose there are probably some of both:

They had a picturesque white church:

And lovely homes set back in the trees with large porches for sitting on summer afternoons:

And a wonderful lake shore with a public boat launch:

And there certainly were some nice mountain views on Mountain View Lake. Wouldn't you just love to spend a summer afternoon on that wrap-around balcony?:

The homes were, by and large, quite nice:

And many of the homes which were not right on the lake shore were set up on a hill so they still had nice views:

And what a wonderful summertime view these people had:

This older building was set right on the water's edge and I wondered if it had originally been a barn, a garage, a general store or a boat house. My guess would be that it was a boat house - and probably still is:

This was the Adirondacks at its best. I'll post more photos of Mountain View, New York tomorrow:
