Chapter 3 - Discovering Floodwood Mountain

We'd reached the south summit of Floodwood Mountain and the views of the Adirondacks were stunning:

Mosses, grasses and small wildflowers grew in the cracks of the rocks, wherever they could find a bit of soil:

And the rocks were full of a red mineral of some sort, causing me to speculate that it was the famous Adirondack garnet. I didn't, however, see any crystal forms of it:

But I had been longing for a bit of rest and relaxation up there, so I lay down on a grassy spot and watched as Clover explored the mountainside:

Giant Seamus looked noble atop the mountain with the Adirondacks spread out behind him:

Seamus and Daphne came over to join me in my rest and relaxation:

And Fergus, ever the faithful companion, watched alertly just a foot away from me:

I was very happy:

The dogs had one barking episode, apparently believing they'd heard an intruder. So I put several of them on leashes lest they frighten any people who might be coming to share the summit with us (but no one arrived):

We made our way back to the north summit and took one final look out over the Adirondack scenery:

Clover, ever the little adventuress, again went exploring:

All too soon, though, it was time to begin our descent. But I'll post about that tomorrow:
