Chapter 3 - Rooseveltown, New York

I passed by this interesting place as I toured Rooseveltown. It looked like a nursing home to me and, checking the internet later, found that I was correct. I imagine that sitting outdoors on such a day, watching the clouds float overhead and listening to the bird songs would be a nice experience for anyone in a nursing home:

This classic home was one of my favorites:

A more modern home with Spirea blooming out front:

A small, comfortable home with a front porch:

And yes, Rooseveltown had a Post Office:

This home was being constructed, demolished or rebuilt. I'd guess the latter, judging by the dumpster nearby:

And Hammill's Store, looking as if it hadn't changed since the 1950s:

A gorgeous red barn:

And another home with a front porch, all surrounded by trees:

This home had lots of out buildings and fences, causing me to wonder if they had dogs, chickens or both (though I saw neither). I did notice, though, that they had a boat and a trailer. Being so close to the St. Lawrence Seaway and all the Adirondack waterways, I imagine that the boat is often used:

And as I turned down another country lane to find my way home, I marveled at the enormity of both the skies and farm fields. This field must have been several hundred acres. Rooseveltown was a beautiful community and I was glad I'd taken this driving tour:

Chapter 2 - Rooseveltown, New York

I was taking a driving tour through rural Rooseveltown, just east of Massena, and finding it both attractive and surprisingly populated:

There were modular homes:

And what appeared to be old farm houses:

All surrounded by beautiful trees. This was comfortable country living:

Many homes were nearly hidden by the trees:

And have you noticed the big, blue skies overhead?:

This family had a picnic table outdoors beneath a spruce tree. It seemed to me to be a grand place for children to grow up:

But this old farmstead scene truly took my breath away:

Sadly, however, when I got to the front of the house I discovered it was no longer occupied and was falling into disrepair:

A giant old barn was nearby and it too seemed abandoned:

And this cleverly constructed home with multiple additions and a full length front porch with geometric patterns:

More comfortable country living. I'd expected to find a few homes and perhaps a barn or two in Rooseveltown. But I found instead a nice rural community full of attractive homes with a friendly sort of feel to it. I'll post Part 3 tomorrow:

Chapter 1 - Rooseveltown, New York

I drove in to Massena to find an office supply store. It was on the east side of town where I don't often go, so when I was done, I decided to take a new route home. Looking at the map, I found a small settlement called Rooseveltown and decided to make a driving tour:

There were comfortable homes surrounded by trees:

And Sprague's Restaurant. It didn't look open until I spotted a light on inside:

A green home surrounded by green forest:

And another home nestled in the trees:

There were trailers:

And attached garages:

And this giant chimney, probably for a fireplace:

Just enough trees for shade without blocking the view:

Rooseveltown was partially located adjacent to what appeared to be a State Forest, but I couldn't find any mention of which one on the map. I then began to see the trees thinning out as I entered farm country:

And I do mean farm country! Look at the size of that field:

There were big, deluxe homes and smaller, simpler homes. But there were many more homes than I would have guessed, too many to present in just one post. So I'll post Part 2 tomorrow:
