Denton Road After A Snowstorm

It was snowing heavily, but I decided that since I was driving Denton Road anyway, I'd take some winter scenery pictures. There isn't much human activity to see on Denton Road, but this old shed must have once been an entryway for a mobile home, long since removed:

Denton Road is gravel and narrow. It took me through forests of varying types:

Everything was lovely with it's light coating of snow. This was lightweight, fluffy snow and wasn't sticking much:

White Pines behind Black Cherry trees:

Red Pines (I think). It's hard to tell from the picture and I can't remember:

A mixture of hardwood and coniferous trees:

The Beech trees still held their coppery leaves:

More pines:

The road was lined with mounds of snow which the plows had left. There'd be lots more snow and higher piles within just a few days:

I took one last picture before I put my camera away and continued driving home. Winter may not be comfortable, but it sure provides some beautiful scenery:

Denton Road's Winter Finery, Part 2

I continued on Denton Road and could see the tracks of an Amish buggy which had gone before me:

I'd passed out of the farmland portion of the road and was entering into forest land:

The white birches bowed right over onto the road from the weight of the ice:

This gigantic old stump stood alone at the edge of the forest. I'd photographed it once before, near Halloween, since it looked so spooky. It must have been a very large and old tree before it died:

Icy beauty along both sides of the road:

The mostly hardwood forest had occasional bursts of native pines, both White Pine and Red Pine:

And Beech trees still sported their brown leaves:

There were icy bursts of white filigree along the road:

And my Amish neighbor's farm field, cut by hand out of forest over the last several years:

I could identify places where former farm fields had been by their smaller trees:

And other places had apparently been forest for a very long time:

I knew I'd reached Nicholville when I drove out of the forest and came to active farmland once again. So I put my camera away and continued on toward my destination:

Denton Road's Winter Finery, Part 1

Denton Road is a gravel road which runs from the town of Lawrence to the town of Nicholville. It may look like a wilderness trail, but there's more traffic on the road and more homes behind those trees than you might guess. It was so lovely on this overcast winter's day that I decided to take some photos:

The white birches arched and swayed like ballet dancers beneath their icy coats:

And seemed to me like white fireworks being shot off over the road:

The trees along a hay field formed a lacy latticework of finery:

With icy beauty wherever I looked:

There was a farm field behind these trees:

Some trees were so bowed that their tops nearly touched the ground:

Farm posts marked the end of a field and the beginning of forest:

This speed boat sat alone and unused as it does all year long:

An entrance to another, smaller farm field:

And then the road took me deeper into the forest:

There were occasional apple trees, but most of the land here had returned to forest many years ago. But there was still more to see, and I'll post Part 2 tomorrow:
