The Red Poll Girls Of Autumn

This is Jasmine, the sweetest natured cow in the herd. She seems to have arthritis in at least one front leg, so she lies down a lot:

And when the flies are bothersome, the Red Poll girls push together, using each other to rub the flies off:

Gracie, Amy and Violet - a placid threesome:

Rosella and Scarlett, daughter and mother. That's Jasmine in the background:

Jasmine again, and again lying down. She does look contented though, doesn't she?:

Gracie and Jasmine. Ive gotten quite good at identifying them from a distance, though it is still a good thing they have ear tags so I can be sure:

 Rosella, Scarlett, Amy and Violet:

They often hang out near the barn, partly for the shade of the Box Elder tree (which you can see is already about to lose its leaves) and partly for the stock tank full of water:

This is Violet, the cow who I thought had a mummified fetus. She's probably the most obese of the herd, as indicated by her flabby brisket. I'm still hoping that she was impregnated by Teddy, the rented bull. Any calf will be a crossbreed, but Violet needs to produce a calf to earn her keep and also for the sake of her own health. Producing milk for a calf will slim her down:

Jasmine and Gracie. This is the first photo of Jasmine standing:

Gracie is pretty darn fat herself. I did see evidence that Gracie came into heat when the bull was here so I am hopeful that she is now pregnant:

Another Box Elder tree on the other side of the barn is also a popular place for hanging out:
