The snow had just begun to fall when I decided to take a driving tour of nearby Beebe Road in Hopkinton. I'd noticed on a map that it ran right down the western border of Adirondack Park lands. Indeed, this "Entering Adirondack Park" sign stood right at the intersection:
The road was all farmland at first (yes, that's a farm house on the horizon):
And hardwood forests. Most of the trees were small except along the road, which led me to believe these were former farm fields, abandoned and grown up to woodlands:
And pine forests. Both White and Red Pines are native to this area and quite common:
I came to this collection of big equipment, truck trailers, etc. I figured there was a house somewhere since the driveway was plowed and there were trash cans along the road:
I pulled forward a bit and found more Neptune trailers and a mobile home. The steps in front of the doors were not shoveled and had no footprints, so at first I assumed no one lived there any more. Then I realized there was probably a back door which they used:
Another collection of buildings, more trash cans, a dog run, a canoe and a giant pile of firewood:
There were lots of outbuildings, but I suspected that the house was farther back off the road:
Another mobile home, this one with two snowmobiles. I'm sure they got lots of use this winter:
Many homes were far off the road and I had to use the zoom lens to snap a photo of them:
This farm house had a collection of barns out back and lovely White Pines in the front. But there was more to see on Beebe Road and I'll post Part 2 tomorrow:
