County Route 55, Part 3

I was touring the very rural County Route 55 and passed by Mike's Garage, where my car had just been repaired. In fact, this was why I had been in the area:

This woodsy home had an elevated deck and a ladder leaning against the roof, presumably for removing excess snow. It was wise of them not to have removed it yet, for we had a spring snowstorm that very night:

I passed by the Stony Knoll Bison Farm. The bison were lounging out in the field, but too far away for me to get a good photo:

As I approached the end of County Route 55 in Nicholville, I passed by St. Therese Catholic Church:

A classic front porch, so typical of homes in the area:

At the end of the road was Wheel's General Repair in Nicholville, a competitor to Mike's Garage. I snapped this last photo, put my camera away and headed for home:

County Route 55, Part 2

I was touring County Route 55, which began in North Lawrence, New York and ended in Nicholville (see also Part 1, yesterday). This was rural scenery at its finest, with lots of old barns such as this one:

This older farm house had a sparkling, new, yellow steel roof and modern barns out back:

A modern farm with feed bin and silo:

Stauffer Farm, one of the largest in the area. Those big tanker trucks are sometimes seen, hauling liquid manure up and down my own road:

Another picturesque farm:

A stone cairn along the road, with a corn field behind it. Beyond the corn stubble were more woodlands:

This small stream burbled through some woods right next to the road:

A lovely old farm. And yet there was more rural scenery along County Route 55, so I'll post Part 3 tomorrow:

County Route 55, Part 1

I had to take my car to the shop for new spark-plugs and to have snow tires replaced. The garage was on County Route 55, a scenic farm road, so I took a driving tour as soon as they were finished:

This was a very rural road, with woodlands, farm fields and barns:

This elevated, small building was close to the road and I decided that it must have been built as a play house for children:

Nicholville To Lawrenceville, County Route 55 - Part 3

I continued on my driving tour of County Route 55, passing exquisite and elaborate old barns and silos. This was indeed farm country and had been for many years:

A comfortable and friendly looking home:

And a very old barn, apparently unused, in front of modern, one story barns:

A lovely brick farm house:

And an old barn, all by itself and apparently abandoned beneath several trees in a field:

This lovely old barn didn't seem to be used anymore, but I couldn't be sure:

Uncountable acres of corn fields, now just stubble:

I ended my driving tour at this old farmstead with modern barns. There is still a lot of active farming in this area:

Nicholville To Lawrenceville, County Route 55 - Part 2

I was taking a driving tour of rural County Route 55 and seeing lots of barns, tractors and pickup trucks (see also Part 1, yesterday's post):

There were comfortable, friendly looking farm houses:

And Mike's Garage, where I have my car repaired:

A modern home with a wood furnace out back:

A convenient walk bridge to the mailbox:

An old barn with a silo:

This looked like a very old homestead:

And behind it were more old barns:

A very large home:

And this curious structure. My first thought was that it was deer stand, but it was too close to the road for that. It must have been a children's fort or play house:

This home still had chairs on its porch:

Very large, old maples kept watch over this home. But there was still more to see on County Route 55, so I'll post Part 3 tomorrow:
