St. Regis Waterfall - Part 1

I had a lot of work to do around the farm, but instead I took the dogs hiking. We went back to the waterfall on the St. Regis River which was too snowed in when I tried to take my sister there this past springtime. The trail was rather broad at the beginning:

I found the walking easy and the dogs were having great fun:

But soon a smaller, less used trail branched off to the right. I'd probably have never noticed it if someone hadn't told me about it. We turned onto the smaller trail and began heading toward the river, stepping over many fallen trees along the way:

I saw thousands of Clintonia, or Bluebead Lily. It was pretty obvious how they got the latter name:

The forest appeared to be mostly Balsam Fir, though I didn't notice any Balsam aroma:

And besides the Clintonia, there were millions of Dewdrops, Dalibarda repens, a tiny member of the Rose family:

Daphne loves to be in the forest and ran excitedly:

Seamus loves it also but can't get his big body over fallen trees like this. I had to lift his front end over the tree and then reach across the log and lift his back end over it. We repeated the process on our way back:

And then we came to the river and the waterfall. The dogs were excited and ran right to it:

We began at the base of the falls, and the dogs explored the rocks and puddles. Little Jack intended to get a drink of cool water but his feet slipped and he slid on his belly right down into the pool:

Spectacular, wild beauty and happy dogs. This was why I love to come here:

But we had more to see, so I called the dogs and we began to walk upstream. I'll post Part 2 tomorrow:
