We hadn't been able to get back into the hidden village at the abandoned Frontier Town since the previous autumn and I was hoping that this time we'd make it back across those pitted, treacherous roads into the forest village. I pulled into the parking lot:
We made it all the way back into the forest to where the abandoned tourist town stood. I let the dogs out and they ran joyfully up and down the sandy lanes:
I parked near the old church, perhaps the most picturesque building in the village:
Well, I suppose this row of storefronts in the style of the old west would give the church a run for its money in the picturesque department:
The younger dogs ran full speed into the village to explore, but old Winky and Wally were toddling along at an unusually slow pace. I knew I had to keep a close watch on them as Winky was deaf and Wally was blind - and both were prone to wandering minds:
At first we stayed close to the car, exploring the nearby cabins:
I've never quite figured out what this structure might have been, but I suspect it was a train station for the miniature train which hauled tourists around the property:
Clover found something fascinating:
And both Daphne and Clover used an old White Pine log to play on:
Seamus led a line of slowpokes as the three speedsters raced on ahead:
But Winky was having a lot of trouble walking, so I led them all back to the car and put him comfortably inside so the rest of us could explore. Wally, in spite of his age and blindness, was feeling spry and energetic. So he came with us:
Once we'd left old Winky behind, the fun began. I, however, had to hang back and keep calling Wally so he'd know where we were. But I'll post more tomorrow:
