It was a beautiful, spring day and I decided to take the dogs out for a romp in the north field. The last time we'd done so, there was enough snow blocking the gate that we had to slip through the fence wires. But the snow was all gone, so I turned off the electric fence and let the dogs run:
They ran exuberantly - even Seamus:
And they found the recently spread cow manure to be delightful. I never noticed it until I uploaded the photos, but it looks to me as if Fergus had a chunk of manure in his happy mouth as he ran toward me:
Seamus soon slowed down but Clover never does. She continued to run:
Jack, Daphne and Clover make quite a running trio. Getting their attention when they are so ecstatic is the hard part. It's a good thing I have a booming voice:
We crossed the field, to where the small dogs slipped beneath the wires and investigated the interesting smells along the border. Seamus and I, being larger and more ungainly, were stuck inside the fence, watching all the fun:
I called the dogs back toward the house and they all came running - especially Jack:
Clover and Jack continued to race each other as we returned home:
Seamus, on the other hand, had worn himself out:
I tried keeping the dogs closer to me as we neared the road:
Yet they still ran and played as I encouraged them to go in circles instead of going too far away from me:
I'd intended to put Jack on a leash as we neared the road, but he was so happy to be home that he ran away from me, across the road and to the back door of the house. I made the other four dogs heal, but that's something Jack doesn't know yet:
