I didn't drive up to the farm this weekend but here's some photos from the trip last weekend. The photo above is of some of the 6 dogs and 5 cats at home just before we left. The dogs love to travel and are quite excited. Most of these critters were rescued from the local animal shelter where I volunteered for several years. They were going to be put to sleep for various reasons. I got a lot of animals adopted, but as you can see, quite a few stayed with me.
Anyway, the farm is about 4 hours north of here and I have to drive directly through the beautiful high peaks region of the Adirondack Park with all 6 dogs in the back of my little Honda Fit. The picture below is the scene I see as I enter the high peaks region:
A waterfall alongside the road. In fact, it's at the same spot where I took the picture above:
Another waterfall alongside the road:
The Ausable River. You can certainly tell it's close to the road as you can see my side view mirror and a guard rail:
In the town of Keene, New York, the most wonderful store a boy could discover:
Inside, it's full of stuffed bison, bobcats, fawns, bears, fish, toads, mice, weasels, and birds of every description. You can buy coyote tails, skunk-skin or raccoon-skin hats, Christmas tree ornaments, small canoes or fanciful dung beetles in lucite.
The best of all. Two stuffed raccoons paddling a birch bark canoe. Is this not a 10 year old boy's dream store? Admittedly, he'd have to be a 10 year old boy with a bit of money...........
A bit of traditional Adirondack architecture in the center of Keene, New York. Be sure to click on this one for a larger view which better shows the architectural details:
The "downtown" section of Keene, New York. I turn left just ahead up there to continue on toward Mt. Marcy, Whiteface, Lake Placid, etc:
The edge of this pond is only a few feet from the highway:
