I began taking more photos of old PeeWee, thinking of the day when I would have him no longer:
I adopted PeeWee in 2013. He was already rather old and was recovering from a mauling by a big dog. But he healed nicely and came to enjoy being around all my other dogs:
PeeWee gradually lost most of his eyesight and hearing, but he seemed to cope with it well. I think he took his cues from the other dogs and cats around him:
As time went on, PeeWee stopped pooping and peeing outdoors and began doing it indoors. I had to be ever vigilant to keep my house clean:
I began carrying him wherever he needed to go and I think he enjoyed that. I guess it felt like being hugged. Well, it was like being hugged:
I divided my bedroom in half and spread a plastic tablecloth over the carpeting so PeeWee could continue to sleep with his family. Toward the end, he quit sleeping in his favorite dog bed and just sprawled out on the floor:
I got him some absorbent belly bands to protect my floor from his peeing. But brave, loving little PeeWee only lived a few days after the belly bands arrived:
After PeeWee died, Draco the cat was bereft and confused. We'd established a twice a day routine where Draco got to clean up the canned dog food which PeeWee spilled when he ate. When Draco got to do that no longer, he was very sad:
I got some photos of PeeWee from 2013, a younger, happier time when he was in foster care. My first reaction upon seeing them was "Yep, that's my PeeWee:"
I especially liked this photo of PeeWee in his beloved dog bed from his days with his foster family. He continued to love that bed after I adopted him and used it until just before he died. That dog bed is still in my bedroom and reminds me of him every time I see it. PeeWee was a brave, gutsy, loving, little dog who everyone fell in love with. I will miss him:

Sleepytime Doggy
While sorting through my pet photos, I couldn't help but notice that I had a lot of shots of old PeeWee sleeping in his dog beds (he has two of them, one upstairs and one downstairs). Well, PeeWee spends a great deal of his life sleeping peacefully, so I decided to dedicate one post to my little Sleeping Beauty:
PeeWee was an oldster who was given up for adoption by his family because they were getting divorced. He was subsequently attacked by a big dog and badly injured. He came to me with stitches and lots of fears, but has recovered marvelously:
PeeWee is nearly blind and nearly deaf but still enjoys life a great deal and is prone to sudden bursts of dancing for joy, especially at dinnertime. He developed a corneal ulcer shortly after coming to live with me but a couple months of treatment have put him aright:

As you can see, it's not real important to PeeWee that he be right inside his doggy bed:
As long as he's touching his beloved bed, he's happy. And he sure does like having my other dogs around. They are gentle with him and I can tell that he feels like he belongs, following them wherever they go:
PeeWee also has a doggy bed beneath my computer desk, so whenever I'm working there, he's right at my feet. That cloudy eye you see is a remnant of his corneal ulcer:
PeeWee is a Papillon mix, so he fits right in with my other Papillons - and he sure knows how to get comfortable:
I have noticed that he's not always actually sleeping. I often see one eye watching me as I move around the room. He likes to sleep, but he also wants to know what's going on around him, what his family is doing:
One of the cats took a liking to PeeWee's computer desk bed, but is only allowed to use it when PeeWee is upstairs in his other bed. When PeeWee's downstairs, this is his domain:
And he does know how to drape himself luxuriously over his bed:
Comfort is his primary goal and he's quite talented at achieving it:
Sweet dreams, little fella:
