North Raquette River Road, Massena - Part 3

I saw many classic old barns on my driving tour of North Raquette River Road:

There were three beautiful horses on the side of a hill and then a fourth joined them and led them, running, across the crest of the hill. It was a spectacular sight:

A lovely home with a lovely view of the Raquette River behind it:

A lime green home with big porch:

And a blue home and garage:

A tiny bungalow next to an even bigger barn, right on the shore of the Raquette River:

Another lime green home:

A newer home with a classic country look and a three bay garage:

And further evidence that north country folks want big porches even on their new homes. There's just too much beautiful scenery to be enjoyed:

This stately home seemed to have New England written all over it:

And big trees surrounded this comfortable looking home:

I turned at the bridge which would take me south, across the Raquette River and toward home. This ended my driving tour for the day but there was a lot more scenery to be toured in the future. Stay tuned:

North Raquette River Road, Massena - Part 2

I was taking a driving tour of North Raquette River Road which follows the north shore of the Raquette River (yesterday was Part 1):

There were plenty of picturesque old barns:

And the river was visible behind and between many of the houses. A lot of farm equipment was parked beneath the trees along this stretch of the river:

Two old barns and a silo:

And a farm house sitting far, far off the road with a winter's hay supply ready for use:

A modern, suburban home with an American flag:

A barn with a square wreath:

Another suburban home:

The older part of this barn was missing its roof, but clearly it still was used to raise beef cattle:

Even the more modern homes up here are built with big porches. With so much beautiful scenery, folks like to sit and enjoy it:

Another spectacular old barn, this one with children's play equipment nearby:

A farm house and barn. But there was still more to see on North Raquette River Road. I'll post Part 3 tomorrow:

North Raquette River Road, Massena - Part 1

I had a bit of shopping to do in Massena and took a new route to get there, bringing me to North Raquette River Road. This road follows the north shore of the Raquette River and there is also a South Raquette River Road which I'll be sure to tour sometime. This road was a mix of rural and suburban. This old barn was a classic beauty:

And a friendly, comfortable looking home with both a ramp and a basketball hoop:

A suburban looking home:

And, on that cold, dark day, a home with lights on inside:

Another old barn:

And modern farm equipment parked in a hay field:

A tractor, a pickup truck and an enclosed porch:

Another home with a suburban look:

Nicely landscaped with a sturdy, two car garage:

And a small home with a giant porch:

This home had a barn out back:

And this home had four chairs on the porch, two of them rocking chairs, for sitting and chatting. But North Raquette River Road was long and had lots more to see, so I'll post Part 2 tomorrow:
